Roger Heaton

clarinet

Clarinettist and composer Roger Heaton performs and records throughout Europe. He gave the first German performance of Fox’s Clarinet Quintet with the Arditi Quartet, and played Feldman’s Clarinet and String Quartet with them in London in the presence of the composer. He has played with Ensemble Modern and was a member of the London Sinfonietta. He currently performs with a number of groups including the Kreutzer and Smith Quartets and the Gavin Bryars Ensemble.

Roger was Music Director of Rambert Dance Company from 1988 to 1993, and Clarinet Professor at the Darmstadt Feriennkurse für neue Musik, 1982-1984. He is Professor of Music at Bath Spa University College. Commercial recordings include the first recording of Harrison Birtwistle’s Clarinet Quintet, Scelsi’s concerto Kya, and the solo clarinet music of Tom Johnson.
