Divine Art announces a new piano recital album with Italian pianist Alfonso Soldano

The celebrated Italian pianist Alfonso Soldano is making a new album of popular piano pieces to be titled ‘My Things’ which as the title suggests, is a programme of works that mean much to the pianist and as he himself puts it, reflect his life and experiences. The album includes established favourites including Debussy’s ‘Clair de lune’ and arrangements of works by a rage of composers from Bach, Rachmaninov, Poulenc, Scriabin and Gershwin to Charles Trenet and Richard Rodgers – a wonderfully varied and accessible recital. Also possibly new to many Western ears are atmospheric pieces by Chinese and Japanese composers. Soldano highlights ‘On a Disappeared Pleaid’ from the Pleaides Dances suite by Takashi Yoshimatsu (b.1953) which he describes as evocative and imaginative, soft and peaceful – music from the cosmos.

The recording is to be made in Italy in the latter part of 2024, with release anticipated around summer 2025.

Alfonso Soldano is an Italian concert pianist and teacher, with a solid educational background and stylistic preparation, an international career, as well as attention and extensive experience in charity events with a social background. He is a honorary citizen of the City of Trani, on the initiative and unanimous approval of the administration and the municipal council, with a ceremony and celebratory concert held on July 30, 2020, for proven artistic merits.

Alfonso won his first music competition at the age of 7 in Taurisano (LE), and has won numerous other absolute first prizes, or I has been a finalist, in national and international competitions (Milan Humanitarian Society prize, Formia, Matera, etc.), to then complete an academic training and graduate from the Conservatory with 110 honors and honorable mention.

As a teenager he made his debut in Mozart’s Concert K488, directed by Valfrido Ferrari, and immediately after at the Garibaldi Theater in Bisceglie, in Rachmaninov’s Concert No. 2, directed by Ovidiu Balan.

His artistic training proceeded under the supervision of the legendary Italian-French pianist Aldo Ciccolini, one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, from adolescence to youth, and the maestro exclusively granted Alfonso an endorsement to set up a musical academy in favor of talents and culture. Thus was born in 2015 the Aldo Ciccolini Foundation of Trani, which has promoted numerous events of high artistic standing, in the spirit of social benefit, territorial rebalancing, and support of young talents. Finally, Alfonso Soldano brilliantly obtained the diploma of High Specialization at the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome, under the guidance of Benedetto Lupo.

In the didactic field, Alfonso Soldano is professor of piano at the “U.Giordano” Conservatory of Foggia, and has been professor in the Conservatories of Rome – Santa Cecilia, Taranto, Bari, Lecce, Teramo, and is also regularly invited to hold masterclasses in important foreign institutions (China, United States, Ukraine). He was awarded in 2013 the Gold Medal Maison des Artistes as the best young Italian artist.

As a solo pianist he has performed in numerous theaters and festivals in Italy and abroad and has received high critical praise for his ongoing series of recordings for Divine Art.

Coming to Divine Art in Summer 2023: Scriabin Piano Music from Alfonso Soldano

Divine Art Recordings will be releasing a new album by the accomplished virtuoso pianist Alfonso Soldano, containing a program of piano works by Alexander Scriabin. The collection includes one sonata and many of the composer’s more popular Études and other shorter works and is intended to be the first instalment in a Complete Piano Works edition.  Scriabin (1872-1915) was in his early career highly influenced by Chopin, composing in a late Romantic idiom but later developed his own very distinctive advanced tonality, becoming one of the most controversial composers of the early 20th century, inspired by synesthesia (association of colours with sound), sensualism and theosophy.  Since the 1970s his works have become very well-established and appreciated.

Alfonso Soldano (b, 1986) was one of the most favoured pupils of Aldo Ciccolini.  He has won many piano competitions, sits as juror in others and gives masterclasses throughout Italy. He is recognised for his breathtaking virtuosity coupled with a deep sense of the musical spirit of each piece he performs. He is currently Professor of Piano Performance at the Conservatorio U. Giordano in Foggia, Italy and Artistic Director of the Aldo Ciccolini European Arts Academy Foundation in Trani, Italy.  (A more extensive biography can be supplied).   His previous recordings for Divine Art – of Rachmaninoff, Bortkiewicz and Castlnuovo-Tedesco – have been met with much acclaim.

The album is due to be recorded in Trani soon and is likely to be scheduled for release in the late summer of 2023.

Divine Art is to produce a new album of piano works performed by young Italian star Alfonso Soldano. Titled ‘’Metamorphoses” the programme includes piano transcriptions, some well-known and some receiving the first recording, including Soldano’s own set of 15 Romances, Books 1-3, after Rachmaninov songs. The recording is due to be made in Italy in the spring of 2021 though due to new lockdown restrictions this does remain subject to final confirmation.

This will be Soldano’s fourth recording for Divine Art. He was a favourite student of Aldo Ciccolini (and now is Artistic Director of the Aldo Ciccolini European Arts Academy Foundation based in Trani, Italy). He has won many competitions and has been widely praised for his virtuosity and deep insight into music and has widely toured throughout Europe.   His mentor Ciccolini praised him: “Alfonso Soldano : a huge great promise for the piano, supported by outstanding instrumental abilities as well a musical sensitivity absolutely out of the ordinary. Alfonso Soldano was born in Puglia, South Italy: and therefore belongs to a land which is, and has always been a breeding ground for top class artists. Congratulations with all my heart!” – Aldo Ciccolini

His Romances, based on Rachmaninov Songs, are published by MusePress in Japan and among many other projects is continuing to produce song transcriptions for solo piano. New Russian Piano Music volumes coming soon

The many fans of our Russian Piano Music series may be wondering what new additions will be coming in the future, as it is 18 months or so since the last volume (12) was released. The good news is that preparations are well under way for three more instalments in the series, all featuring the work of well known composers. Alfonso Soldano (whose Bortkiewicz CD was very well reviewed) will play music by Tchaikovsky (vol. 13) and Rachmaninov (vol. 14) while another very fine young Italian pianist, Stefania Argentieri, presents an album of music by Prokofiev. The three new albums are likely to be available from the summer of 2019.

Alfonso Soldano

Following the critical acclaim given to the recent release of music by Sergei Bortkiewicz by Italian pianist Alfonso Soldano (Volume 12 of the Russian Piano series), we have invited Soldano to make two more discs. While currently busy with his recording of music by Castelnuovo-Tedesco to be released in the late summer, Soldano will record later this year albums of piano works by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov.

Another addition to the series will include the debut recording by dynamic and brilliant Italian pianist Stefania Argentieri in a program of works by Prokofiev.
