Samuel Wesley Recordings
London born composer, organist, and teacher Samuel Sebastian Wesley was considered the greatest composer of church music during his time. He had very outspoken views on church conditions, but these were left unquestioned as the genius of his works outshone his controversial conduct.
As a child he was in the choir at Chapel Royal, and he then went on to become organist at three different churches at the young age of sixteen. He was the first organist in England to insist on using a full pedal-board, and wrote primarily for the Church of England.
In 1850, Wesley became Organ Professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and his compositions were regard as high quality works of art.His works were masterpeices of the genre, many of them are still being sung and played daily today. He died at the age of 66 in Gloucester in 1876.
