Aspasia Nasopoulou Recordings

Aspasia Nasopoulou (Athens, 1972) is acomposer, pianist, and curator and is living in Amsterdam. Her work has a poetic, evocative and dynamic transparency. It is inspired by literature, mythology and philosophy from different cultures. In her over more than ninety compositions she frequently explores the synergy between music and theater by integrating new instruments, visuals and dance. Her pieces have been commissioned and are performed regularly by acclaimed soloists and ensembles such as Concord ensemble (IE), DoelenKwartet, Greek Modern Ensemble, Michael Tsalka (IL/NL), Ralph van Raat (NL), Joseph Puglia, (US/NL), Trygve Brøske (NO) and in venues and festivals internationally including Poetry International Rotterdam, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, November Music Festival, Frankfurter Gesellschaft für Neue Musik, Athens Concert Hall, Geelvinck Fortepiano Festival, Muziekgebouw Amsterdam, Entorno Tomas’ Luis de Victoria Festival, Spain, National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan Haäpavesi Folk Music Festival, Finland, Van Gogh Museum.

In 2012 she received the incentive prize from MCN & Publishing House Donemus with the piece ‘Lelia Doura’ based on a cantiga d’amigo for Seldom Sene Recorders Quintet. She received in 2014 the Jury and Audience prizes in Tristan Keuris Componisten Concours.

Together with the bass clarinettist Fie Schouten, she is programming since 2019 the monthly concert series for contemporary chamber music Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam at Plein Theater. She is the artistic director of Orkest De Ereprijs since 2021.

Aspasia Nasopoulou studied piano and composition to diploma and MA degree at the Nikos Skalkottas Conservatory in Athens with Michael Travlos and at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Wim Henderickx and Fabio Nieder. She received a BA in Science/Geology from the National University of Athens.
