Francesc Prat is particularly drawn to contemporary music, having worked frequently in Switzerland and Spain, performing at events including Lucerne Festival, the Basel Composition Competition, ArtBasel, the Berlinale and the Sonar Festival in Barcelona.
In the field of opera, Prat made his debut in 2016 at the Teatro Real in Madrid, with Wagner’s “Liebesverbot”. He has worked at the Theater Basel, Netherlands National Opera, Neuköllner Oper Berlin, the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid and the Teatre Lliure in Barcelona. From 2012 to 2015 he was assistant to Josep Pons at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. His operatic repertoire includes contemporary works by Haas, Sciarrino, Moser, Oehring, Barret and Saariaho, and many
major classical works from Gluck to Britten.
As an orchestral conductor he has conducted the Basel Symphony Orchestra, the Basel Sinfonietta, the Nederlands Kamerorkest, the RTV Ljubljana Symphony Orchestra, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Community of Madrid, the Madrid Symphony, the Balearic Island Symphony and the Orquestra de Cambra de l’Illa de Menorca and Ensemble ö! In 2019 he made his debut as conductor of the Essen Philharmonic to great acclaim.
Francesc Prat studied oboe, piano and theory at the Conservatori Superior de Música in Barcelona, and later at the Lucerne Conservatory of Music (oboe) and the Hochschule für Musik Basel (composition) and Zurich University of the Arts (conducting).
