Asia Ahmetjanova (b.1992 Riga, Latvia) is a pianist and composer working in the fields of solo performance, interactive chamber music, music theatre, performance art, music sculptures, texts
and electronics. She earned her Bachelor Degree in piano with Alexandra Juozapenaite-Eesmaa in Tallinn, Estonia, continuing her education in Lucerne with Konstantin Lifschitz (piano) and Dieter Ammann (composition). In 2017-2020 she earned a Master Degree in Music and Art Performance based on research into interdisciplinary art, where her principal teachers included Clara Ianotta and Carola
Bauckholt.
As a pianist Asia Ahmetjanova has given numerous performances in several European countries, and as far afield as the USA (Carnegie Hall) and South Korea (Tongyong International Music Festival). Other festival appearances include Wien Modern, Lucerne Festival, Darmstädter Ferienkurse, Archipel Geneva, Southhampton Arts Festival (USA), London Ear Festival and Estonian Music Days. She has worked with many leading conductors associated with new music, including Matthias Pintscher, Baldur Brönnimann, Clemens Heil, Michael Sanderling, Christian Schumann, Francesc Prat and many others.
Rejecting attempts at superficial categorisation, she believes strongly that each person should pursue their own distinctive creative identity; a perspective reflected in her artistic life, where her experimental art-performance pieces contrast her introverted, deeply personal choral works. Similarly, as a pianist, her interpretations of the latest and most unconventional piano literature assume equal importance alongside classical works by, for example, Bach and Beethoven. Asia Ahmetjanova is now based in Zürich and works as freelance pianist, composer, a member of Ensemble ö!, and of the music faculty at Hochschule Luzern and Hochschule der Künste Bern.
