Opening in Baroque rectitude with the Aria from Bach’s Goldberg Variations and concluding in more recent times with music by Charles Ives, [the] greater part of the disc is given to a highly revealing performance of Schumann’s Kreisleriana, It has that required aristocratic distinction mixed with a feeling of spontaneity as Chai reveals the work’s full beauty coupled with much forceful brilliance.
