Under-rated British composer John Jeffreys, now turned 80, is best known for his songs, and his purely orchestral pieces are very much songs without words. The stand-out work in every sense is Poem for End, a setting of Ivor Gurney featuring baritone Jonathan Veira. At the piano, conductor Paul Bateman adds sprightly solo miniatures. ****
