Musical Opinion

The Divine Art group (of which Metier form a part) has been doing Micahel Finnissy proud in recent years, and here is the latest release in a series which is forming an impressive conspectus of his prolific and individual output.

Anyone who has encountered Finnissy’s work knows that he is not a composer to make concession – if at all – but equally he is a musician of undoubted gifts and a composer whose music can exert a considerable fascination to the extent that it will draw the interested listener back time and again.

So listeners who have been following this series know want to expect, and for the newcomer I would particularly like to recommend the opening track , Lord Melbourne, and the ‘Beuk o’ Newcassel Sangs’. The performances are consistently fine, as is the recording quality, and Finnissy admirers will need no second bidding to add this twelfth CD in the series to their collections.
