Musical Opinion

Karl Fiorini is the most important Maltese composer since Charles Camilleri; there is surely a strongly investigative study to be written on music from the island. Fiorini (b.1979) is a genuine composer – rather more so in his first Violin Concerto (wth chamber orchestra, 2006-7) than in the more mainstream Second (2011-12), works both deserving recording and study by those interested in the latest European concert music. The performances appear excellent, as are the recordings. **** (five stars)
