Dimitris Marangopoulos Recordings
The Athenian composer Dimitris Maragopulos completed his studies in composition with F.M. Beyer at the Universität der Künste in Berlin with a DAAD scholarship.
His compositions have been performed in many countries including the USA, Canada, Turkey, Hungary, Sweden, Russia, France, Germany and Austria. His symphonic compositions have been performed by such orchestras as the B.B.C. Orchestra, the Moscow and Sofia Philharmonic, Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, Athens State Orchestra, Camerata etc. He has written five Operas which have been staged by the National Opera of Greece and by the Megaron Hall in Athens. He has received special commissions for special events in Greece such as the opening of the new Planetarium and the ceremony of the 2004 Olympics. These compositions have been in repertoire at the Laterna Magica (National Theatre of Prague).
Among others, he has composed church music which has been performed at the Westminster Abbey, the Westminster Cathedral, the Canterbury Cathedral, the Santa Margarita in Venice, and in Munich and Linz -Austria (European Capital of Europe).
His compositions include works for film and stage as well, and in this context D. Maragopulos has collaborated with many Greek eminent directors, such as Carolos Koun, Spyros Evangelatos, Iakovos Kampanelis, Andreas Voutsinas.
Since 1995 he has been the director of the musical cycle “Bridges” at the Athens Concert Hall. He is professor emeritus of Composition for the Performing Arts at the Ionian University. Mr. Maragopulos has also given lectures at The Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College, the King’s College London and the University of Music in Vienna.
