Linda Merrick has an international profile as a clarinettist specialising in contemporary repertory, and for the last sixteen years has been at the forefront of generating new works for her instrument by British composers. During this period, she has commissioned over thirty solo works, including six new concertos for clarinet, and has released nine solo CDs featuring much of this repertory.
Linda has performed as a soloist in America, Australia and across Europe and broadcast for BBC Radio 3, GNR Radio France and DRS1 in Switzerland. She combines her work as a performer with the role of Principal at the Royal Northern College of Music, where she is also Director of the College’s prestigious Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. Her research centres on contemporary performance practice, and she is a regular contributor to specialist clarinet journals and conferences in America, Australia and the UK.
